There’s no way software with a 15 year pedigree should have these issues. I think the most lasting mark my time with MixMeister Fusion had on me is the bugs I encountered. It’s a timeline based system similar to how many DAWs work, where each ‘deck’ is a row on the timeline upon which you add your music as either primary tracks or ‘overlays’: one shots or tracks which don’t get mixed in and out of. I don’t remember much about the version of MixMeister I first used other than its functionality, but I do remember that not a lot has changed with how you use the software. Interface This is what you get when you start a fresh playlist You can even monitor tracks in your headphones, just like a real DJ. The software is a timeline-based system that lets you layer tracks over each other and edit fades, effects and other DJ tricks in real time, then export the finished results. MixMeister Fusion is sort of like Ableton Live for making DJ mixes. MixMeister is neither a DAW nor a full-fledged DJ software, nor is it either accessible or inaccessible. The company has been in existence since 2000. In its various incarnations, it’s probably one of the oldest pieces of DJ software still being developed. MixMeister Fusion, as it stands, is a very odd piece of software. Coming from cheap belt drive turntables (and the occasionally loaner 1210s), entering the world of digital DJing was a revelation, and MixMeister was an excellent taster of what it can do. I’d taken a bit of a hiatus from DJing but was still an avid clubber. Mine started sometime back around 2004, when I tried out MixMeister to just knock up a few mixes to listen to at my desk. Everyone has a slightly different story to tell about their road to digital DJing.
